In Ayah 6 of Surah At-Tahreem, part 28 Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ has said:

یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْۤا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَ اَهْلِیْكُمْ نَارًا وَّ قُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَ الْحِجَارَةُ عَلَیْهَا مَلٰٓىٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا یَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَاۤ اَمَرَهُمْ وَ یَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا یُؤْمَرُوْنَ(۶)

Translation from Kanz-ul-Iman: O believers! Save yourselves and your families from the fire, the fuel of which are men and stones, appointed over it are the extremely powerful angels, who do not refuse the command of Allah and do as they are commanded. (Part 28, Surah At-Tahreem, Ayah 6)

 

Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Na’eemuddin Muradabadi رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has stated in Khaza`in-ul-‘Irfan, regarding the part (یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْۤا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَ اَهْلِیْكُمْ نَارًا)        of above-mentioned Ayah: By obeying Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ and His Blessed Rasool        صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, carrying out acts of worship, refraining from sins, guiding your family members towards righteousness and preventing them from evils and providing them with Islamic education and teaching them manners   (save yourselves and your families from the fire!) The Beloved and Blessed Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has said: ‘كُلُّكُمۡ رَاعٍ وَّكُلُّكُمۡ مَسۡئُوۡلٌ عَنۡ رَعِيَّتِهٖ’ All of you are chiefs and rulers of your family members and on the Day of Judgement, every one of you will be asked about his dependants.

Regarding this Hadees, ‘Allamah Mufti Muhammad Sharif-ul-Haq Amjadi     رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has said: ‘رَعِيَّت’ [Ra’iyyat] (dependants) means that those who are under someone’s supervision. For example, people are under the supervision of the kings and rulers, children under parents, students under teachers and disciples under their spiritual guides. Similarly, it is Wajib for the wife, children or servants to look after the wealth which is entrusted to them. If someone does not have anyone under his supervision so he is a custodian of his body parts and limbs, actions and sayings, his timings and his affairs. He will be held accountable for all of them.
