Book Name:Ikhtiyarat-e-Mustafa (12Shab)

Commenting on the abovementioned blessed Ayah, Sadr-ul-Afadil ‘Allamah Maulana Sayyid Mufti Muhammad Na’eemuddin Muradabadi رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه           has stated: A pregnant woman’s ‘Iddat (period of waiting) ends with the delivery of her child as it is mentioned in Surah At-Talaaq. Here it refers to the woman who is not pregnant and whose husband has died, her ‘Iddat is 4 months and 10 days. Over this period of time, she can neither get married, nor leave her house (husband’s house), nor apply oil without valid reason, nor apply fragrance, nor adore herself, nor wear colourful and silk clothes, nor apply Henna (Mehndi) and nor discuss anything openly about a new Nikah (a marriage).

Dear Islamic brothers! In the light of the abovementioned blessed Ayah and its commentary, it has become obvious that if a husband of a non-pregnant woman dies, so her Iddat is 4 months and 10 days. Now, let’s listen to the blessed power of the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in this matter. The Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم reduced the ‘Iddat of Sayyidatuna Asma Bint ‘Umays رَضِیَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَنْهَا and ordered her to mourn only for 3 days rather than 4 months and 10 days.

Asma Bint ‘Umays رَضِیَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَنْهَا has stated: When my (first husband) Sayyiduna Ja’far Tayyaar رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ passed away, the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said to me: ‘تَسَلَّبِـیْ ثَلٰـثًا ثُمَّ اِصْنَعِـیْ مَا شِئْتِ’ refrain from adorning yourself for three days and then do whatever you want. (Sunan Kubra, vol. 7, pp. 720, Hadees 15523)

After narrating this blessed Hadees regarding the powers of the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم A’la Hadrat Imam Ahmad Raza Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has stated: Here the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم exempted her from the general Islamic law which says that for a woman it is Wajib to mourn the death of her husband for four months and ten days.
