In order to develop a mind-set of observing patience over calamities, few methods are mentioned below. Let’s listen to them carefully and make an intention of acting upon them.

1         Ways of developing the mind-set of patience over calamities

1. Whenever we fall prey to any calamity or worry, we should anxiously turn to the blessed court of Allah Almighty and repent abundantly. Let alone saying it through tongue, we shall not even bring any such thought in our heart either that I did not harm anyone. I am good to everyone. After all, ‘what sin did I commit that I am being punished for?’ Instead of thinking such foolish things, one shall adopt humility. One shall consider herself to be sinful and pay gratitude to Allah Almighty in every state. One shall consider herself to be deserving of severe punishment due to being a staunch transgressor. One shall think that if the calamity I am facing is a punishment for my sins, then it’s not a bad deal at all for me. If I am given the punishment of Hell for my sins in the Hereafter instead of in this world, then I will be ruined.

2. Keeping in mind the oppressions and trials that the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and the blessed Companions عَـلَيْهِمُ الرِّضْوَانْ went through would also be very beneficial in developing a mind-set to observe patience over calamities. Let’s catch few glimpses of how Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and his blessed Companions عَـلَيْهِمُ الرِّضْوَانْ were oppressed. When the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم started calling people towards the worship of Allah Almighty in the valleys of Makkah, then the embodiments of Kufr and shirk (polytheism) became severely displeased of it and became bloodthirsty enemies of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. They laid thorns in the way of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. They pelted his blessed body with stones. They inflicted immense amount of calamities and hardships upon him. They taunted him severely and used foul language against him immensely. They wouldn’t just stop here. Whosoever would be privileged to embrace faith upon the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, those accursed people would inflict severe hardships and calamities upon them too and try to make them leave Islam.
