Hazrat Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ played a crucial role in the early Islamic era. He was not only a close companion of Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم but also had a significant impact on the Islamic community. Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was known for his wisdom, knowledge, and patience.
Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ had a special connection with the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم as he was involved in recording revelations. Beyond that, he was a source of guidance, possessing deep knowledge and a calm demeanor. Interestingly, he shared a familial bond with the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in the 5th generation.
Among his admirable qualities were sincerity, loyalty, kindness, and a strong commitment to keeping promises. He excelled in understanding Islamic jurisprudence and making informed decisions (Fiqh-o-Ijtihad). Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was also known for his good manners, generosity, and proficiency in delivering compelling speeches. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم displayed hospitality, patience, and tolerance, setting an example for others.
His life was marked by service to humanity, helping the poor, and unwavering obedience to Allah ﷻ. Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was dedicated to following the Sunnah and led a pious life. His legacy encompasses a rich tapestry of virtues that continue to inspire and guide people.
Hazrat Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was born in Makkah five years before the Prophet Muhammad's صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم mission. He had embraced Islam in his heart even before the conquest of Makkah, but he kept it a secret, just like Hazrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalibرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ. Hazrat Ameer Muawiya son name was Yazid.
Ameer Muawiya father name was Hazrat Abu Sufyan رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, He came from the Banu Umayya family, the second most powerful family in Mecca after the Banu Hashim, which was the family of Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Hazrat Abu Sufyan رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was known for his qualities even before Islam, and He became a respected figure due to his passion for learning and leadership skills.
Ameer Muawiya mother name was Sayyidatuna Hind b. ‘Utbah رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, embraced Islam during the capture of Makkah. She was a companion of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. She helped Islam by joining the missions of Yarmuk and Al-Qadisiyah. She رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہwas skilled in Arabic language and very smart.
Hazrat Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was the first leader of the Umayyad Caliphate. He’s often seen as a key figure in Islamic history, known for his significant impact. Though opinions about him vary, beyond the biased views in historical accounts, Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ achieved remarkable success in rebuilding a Muslim state and revitalizing the Arab Muslim military campaign against non-believers. His accomplishments were mainly in political and military administration.
He played a crucial role in transforming Islamic political governance. Unlike the earlier caliphs who saw themselves as the 'deputy of the messenger of God,' He and his successors adopted the title 'deputy of God.' This change marked a shift in the way Islamic rule was structured.
Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was very careful about being fair and just, treating everyone, regardless of their social status, with generosity and equity. He respected and supported those with talent, helping them to develop their skills, without considering their tribal background. When faced with the impulsive behavior of ignorant individuals, he showed great patience, and for those who were inclined to be greedy, he displayed remarkable generosity.
He firmly enforced the judgments of Islamic law, known as Shar'i, on all, showing determination, compassion, and diligence in doing so. Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ actively participated in the religious practices of the community. He led them in prayers, guided them in various gatherings, and even took charge in times of war.
In essence, he proved to be a well-balanced and exemplary leader.
Hazrat Ameer Muawiya’s رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ headquartered in Damascus, grew quickly in its early days. The Caliphs successfully led military campaigns against the Byzantine Empire in the east and the Sassanian Empire in the west, gaining control of large areas along the way.
Despite the mixed opinions, they acknowledge Hazrat Ameer Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ role as a scribe of Qur'anic revelations and recognize him as a companion of Muhammad صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He strategically utilized the central treasury to stabilize his rule, empowering himself for leadership.
Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was seen as a God-fearing, compassionate individual, deeply devoted to God, and a respected companion blessed by the Messenger in his final moments.
The Companions of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, are like guiding stars in the sky. Their light helps those emerging from the darkness of confusion find the right path. These companions are sources of wisdom and action, were knowledge and good deeds flow abundantly. They serve as examples of the Prophet's صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم teachings, and their greatness is highlighted in the Quran. Among these exceptional individuals is Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ, a name associated with Arabia's honor and various virtues.
These companions had the honorable task of recording the Prophet's صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم words, making them essential contributors to the Quranic verses. They are a precious group known as the Sahaba, emitting the fragrance of love for the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and their guidance inspires a wealth of knowledge and virtuous deeds.
Ameer e Muawiya رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ was proactive in doing good deeds and encouraged others to follow suit. Whenever he observed actions contrary to Islamic law, he promptly corrected them. He personally adhered to the practices of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, following the Sunnah, and urged others to do the same.
Once, during his rule, he visited Medina and, on the Day of Ashura, delivered a sermon. In it, he reminded the people about the significance of the day and quoted the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, who had said, "This is the Day of Ashura. Whoever wishes to fast may do so, and whoever doesn't want to fast should refrain."
Ameer Muawiya death date was 12 Rajab ul Murajjab, in the year of 60 Hijri. His resting place is near Bab al-Saghir in Damascus, where a beautiful building surrounds his tomb. Every Monday and Thursday, people can visit this revered shrine to seek blessings.
