those Sadaqat for which, without spending any possessions or wealth, the virtues of Sadaqah can still be attained. Similarly, there are some Sadaqat which have more rewards than others. Financial Sadaqat and the Sadaqat for which money is not spent are also included in these superior Sadaqat. Let us firstly listen to those Sadaqat for which money is not spent:
Sadaqah without spending any money or possession
§ Smiling at your fellow Muslim, is a Sadaqah.
§ The act of calling towards righteousness and preventing from evil, is a Sadaqah.
§ Guiding a person who has lost his way, is a Sadaqah.
§ Helping a weak-sighted (or blind) person is a Sadaqah.
§ Removing a stone, thorn or bone from the pathway, is a Sadaqah.
§ Pouring water from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is a Sadaqah. (Sunan-ut-Tirmizi, vol. 3, pp. 384, Hadees 1963)
§ Lending money is a Sadaqah. (Shu’ab-ul-Iman, vol. 3, pp. 284, Hadees 3563)
§ Abstaining from creating troubles is a Sadaqah.
§ Doing justice between two people, helping someone mount an animal, or helping someone pick up his luggage, speaking good, walking for offering Salah and removing a painful thing from the pathway, are all Sadaqah.
§ Planting a tree or ploughing a field out of which a person, bird or an animal eats from, is also a Sadaqah.
Let’s listen about those Sadaqat which are declared superior by our Beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, that is to say, if a Muslim gives these types of Sadaqat, then اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه عَزَّوَجَلَّ, he will earn the reward of a superior Sadaqah.
