Rulings are under the authority of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم

Mufti Amjad Ali A’zami رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states: The authority over rulings pertaining to Halal and Haraam (Ahkam-e-Tashree’yyah) were given in the hand of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, thus, he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم can make something Haram upon whomever he wishes, and make something Halal upon whomever he wishes, and forgive any Fard.[1]

Allamah Zurqaani رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states: Allah Almighty made the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم the owner over all lands of this world and the Hereafter. The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم can grant any portion of Paradise to whomever he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم wills, then what about the land of this world![2]

Two narrations regarding ownership over rulings

I will now present two Hadith regarding the authority of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم:

1.   It is stated in Sahih Muslim: The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم delivered a Khutbah and said, ‘O people! Hajj has been made Fard upon you, so perform Hajj.’ One man asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Every year?’ The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم remained silent. He asked the same three times. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘If I say yes then it would become Wajib upon you, and you would be unable to perform it.’ (Meaning, if I had said yes then it would become Fard upon you every year, and you would be unable to do that).[3]
