The construction of Bayt-ul-Muqaddas and the passing of Sayyiduna Sulayman عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام

It is narrated that Sayyiduna Dawood عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام placed the foundations of Bayt-ul-Muqaddas in that area where the tent of Sayyiduna Musa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was set up. The time of Sayyiduna Dawood’s عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام passing arrived before this building was constructed, so he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام bequeathed his son, Sayyiduna Sulayman عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, to complete it, thus, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام commanded the Jinn to finish it. When the time of his death approached, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام made Du’a that the Jinn do not become aware of his death, so that they remain busy in constructing the building, and their claim of possessing knowledge of the unseen is invalidated. Then he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام stood in the Mihrab, and as per his habit, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام stood in prayer whilst leaning on his staff.

As per their routine, the Jinn continued in their services and thought that Sayyiduna Sulayman عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was still alive, and Sayyiduna Sulayman عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام remaining in that state did not surprise them at all, because they repeatedly saw him engaged in worship for long periods of time, and his prayer was extremely lengthy, such that the Jinn did not become aware of his death for a long time and they remained busy in their services, until termites consumed his staff, and his blessed body, which was supported by his staff, fell to the ground. Only then did the Jinn come to know of his passing. Thus, the Jinn came to know that they were unaware of the unseen, for if they were aware of the unseen, they would have come to know of the passing of Sayyiduna Sulayman عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, and would not have been subjected to this punishment of humiliation and disgrace.
