the same. Sayyids are deserving of respect not because of themselves, but due to their link to the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Therefore, if a Sayyid does something contrary to Islam, do not develop hatred in your heart for him, instead invite him towards good in a respectful manner. ꜤAllāmah Ibn Ḥajar رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes:

There was an imam who showed great respect towards Sayyids. When someone asked him the reason for this, he answered, “There was a Sayyid who spent his time in futile actions. When he passed away, my teacher did not lead his funeral salah. After that, my teacher saw the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in a dream along with Lady Fāṭimah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهَا, but she turned her face away from my teacher. He asked her the reason for this, and she said, ‘Is our honour and greatness not enough for you to respect our family?’”^[1]

What Lady Fāṭimah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهَا said is that if you see no virtue in our descendants, then at least respect them out of respect for us, because we are people of nobility and respect.

May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to respect the blessed family of the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. We ask Him to grant us true love for the Companions and Ahl al-Bayt عَلَیْہِمُ الرِّضْوَان, and always protect us from disrespecting them or having hatred towards themاٰمِیْنْ .

Pious Deeds Department

Dear Islamic brothers, اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه Dawat e Islami has over 80 departments, one of which is the “Pious Deeds Department.” Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar al-Qadiri دَامَـتْ بَـرَكَـاتُـهُـمُ الْـعَـالِـيَـهْ wishes for every Islamic brother, sister, student of Madrassa tul Madinah and Jami tul Madinah to become practising Muslims. So, the “Pious Deeds Department” was established to encourage us all to act upon the “Pious Deeds” booklet.
