Dear Islamic brothers! Greed for virtues brings success in the world and the Hereafter both, whereas love and greed for wealth destroy the world and the Hereafter both. After becoming greedy for wealth many times a person suffers from a bad disease like lying. Love for worldly greed deprives a person of good company and finally destroys him. Now let’s listen to a very admonitory parable about the consequences of love for the wealth of this world and greedy people who are driven by worldly greed and learn a lesson.

Where is third roti?

A man once came to Sayyiduna ‘Isa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام and humbly said, ‘O Ruhullah! I want to stay in your blessed company so that I can serve you and gain the knowledge of Shari’ah.’ He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام permitted him. During a journey, they reached a stream bank where he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام said, ‘Let’s have food.’ He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام had three Rotis. After both of them had eaten one roti each, Sayyiduna ‘Isa  عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَيْهِ الصَّلٰوةُ وَالسَّلَام went to drink water from the canal. In the meantime, the man hid the third roti. Having returned after drinking water, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام noticed that the third roti was missing, so he asked, ‘Where is the third roti?’ The man told a lie, ‘I do not know.’ He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام did not say anything. After a while, he عَـلٰى نَبِـيِّنَا وَعَـلَيْهِ الصَّلٰوةُ وَالسَّلَام said, ‘Let’s go ahead.’ On the way, they saw a deer with its two fawns. He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام called one of the fawns that came to him. He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام then slaughtered and roasted it and both of them ate it together. After they finished eating, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام collected the bones of the fawn and said, قُمْ بِـاِذْنِ اللّٰه.’ (Rise from the dead by the command of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ).
