In reply, they submitted, “O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم!”    مَا مِنَّا اَحَدٌ اِلَّا مَالُهُ اَحَبُّ اِلَيۡهِ - “Every one of us loves our own wealth more.” Upon this, the final Prophet of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, فَاِنَّ مَالَهُ مَا قَدَّمَ وَمَالَ وَارِثِهِ مَا اَخَّرَ - A person’s wealth is that he sent forward (spends in the way of Allah), and the wealth he leaves behind belongs to his inheritor.”[1]

Other hadith illustrate the countless blessings affiliated with giving charity. Let us now go on to hear 8 further hadith of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم on this subject.

8   hadith discussing charity

1 .   اَلصَّدَقَةُ تَسُدُّ سَبۡعِيۡنَ بَابًا مِّنَ السُّوۡء - Charity closes 70 doors of evil.[2]

2.   كُلُّ امۡرِيٍ فِيۡ ظِلِّ صَدَقَتِه حَتّٰي يُقۡضٰي بَيۡنَ النَّاس - (On the Day of Judgement) Every person shall be in the shade of their charity, until judgement is passed amidst people.[3]

3.   اِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لَتُطۡفِئُ عَنۡ اَهۡلِهَا حَرَّ الۡقُبُوۡرِ وَ اِنَّمَا يَسۡتَظِلُّ الۡمُؤۡمِنُ يَوۡمَ الۡقِيَامَةِ فِيۡ ظِلِّ صَدَقَتِه - Charity indeed protects its givers from the grave’s heat, and a Muslim will no doubt be shaded by his charity on the Day of Judgement.[4]
