in return for each egg. Whole eggs in return for the whole, and broken in return for the broken.[1]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! Our pious predecessors رَحْمَۃُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَیْہِمْ اَجْمَعِیْن did not only give charity abundantly themselves, but they would also greatly encourage other people to perform this virtuous deed. Let’s listen to three events in this regard.
1. Give Sadaqah in every state
Amīr al-Muʾminīn, sayyidunā ʿAlī کَـرَّمَ الـلّٰـهُ تَـعَـالٰی وَجۡـھَـهُ الۡـکَـرِیۡم said:
If you find that worldly wealth has come to you, spend from it. It will not come to an end by your spending. If worldly wealth has turned away from you, still spend from it, as it is not everlasting.[2]
The saint Ḥasan Baṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه was once asked a series of questions.
“What is generosity?”
He replied: “To spend wealth abundantly for the sake of Allah.”
“What is caution?”
“To withhold wealth for the sake of Allah.”
“What is extravagance?”
“To spend wealth in pursuit of power.”[3]
