Dear readers, Sayyidunā Miswar b. Makhramah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا is amongst those who were blessed with being a Companion at a young age. He was the son of Sayyidunā Makhramah رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ and the nephew of Sayyidunā Abd al-Ramān b. Awf رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ. Sayyidunā Miswar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was born in 2 AH in Makkah al-Mukarramah, and in 8 AH at just 6 years of age, he emigrated with his father to Madinah al-Munawwarah. He was also present during the Conquest of Makkah.[1]

The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم sprinkled water on his face

Sayyidunā Miswar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ mentioned a memorable account from his childhood. He stated that on one occasion, the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was performing wudu and he رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was stood behind him. Meanwhile, a Jew walked by. The previous heavenly scriptures spoke about the qualities of the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and so the Jews would search for them qualities in the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Hence, the Jew said to Sayyidunā Miswar, “Move the clothing from your Prophet’s back.” So, he moved forward and moved the cloth, and the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم sprinkled water on his face.[2]

The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم gave him a tray of dates

Sayyidunā Miswar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ said, “The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once gave me a tray of dates to eat.”[3]

Visting the noble Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم with his father

Sayyidunā Miswar رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ mentioned the following:

My father said to me, “Son, I have heard that the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has received some cloaks which he is distributing, so take me to him.”

Therefore, we went to the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم; he was in his home at that time. My father said to me, “Son, call the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم for me.”

This weighed heavily upon me, so I said, “Should I call the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم for you?”

My father replied, “Son, he is not a tyrant.”

So, I called the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and he came out. He was holding a silk garment which had gold buttons. The Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “O Makhramah, we had hidden this for you,” and then gave it to my father.[4]
