Dear readers! Sayyidunā ꜤUbaydullāh b. ꜤAbbās رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا was also granted the honour of becoming a Companion at a young age. Let us read about his blessed childhood.
A brief introduction
He رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was the son of Sayyidunā ꜤAbbās and Sayyidah Umm Faḍl, Lubābah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا, so he was the paternal cousin of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, and was also the nephew (sister’s son) of the mother of the believers, Sayyidah Maymūnah رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهَا. He رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was born in al-Makkah al-Mukarramah two years before the emigration to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. He رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ was a year younger than his brother Sayyidunā Abdullah b. ꜤAbbās رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا.[1]
The beloved Prophet’s صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم love for the children of Sayyidunā ꜤAbbās رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَ
Mentioning the beloved Prophet’s صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم affection towards the children of Sayyidunā ꜤAbbās رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh b. Ḥārith رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ states:
The beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would have the sons of Sayyidunā ꜤAbbās, ꜤAbdullāh, ꜤUbaydullāh and Kathīr رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم, stand in a line and say, “Whoever reaches me first, he will receive such-and-such thing.” They would run towards the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم; one of them climbing his blessed back and another climbing on his blessed chest. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would show them affection and hold them tight.[2]
The beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم seated him behind himself
He رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ recalls an account of when the noble Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once seated him behind himself on a conveyance:
I was sitting behind the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم on a mount when a man approached him and asked about his mother performing Hajj, saying, “O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! My mother is extremely old, and if I place her on a mount, she cannot sit properly.” So, the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم instructed the man to perform Hajj on his mother’s behalf.[3]
