Statements of our Pious Predecessors

Statements of our Pious Predecessors

Sayyid Imran Akhtar Attari Madani

Religiosity is a greater wealth than affluence

Stay away from the gates of the rulers, as that which they will attain from your Hereafter is superior to whatever you will attain from their world.[1]

- Ibn Abbās

Benefits of positive thinking

Thinking about righteousness encourages the performance of pious actions, and shyness over evil invites one to turn away from wrongdoing.[2]

- Ibn Abbās

What deprivation!

A person who does not acquire admonishment from three things: Islam, the noble Quran, and old age; he cannot learn from anything.[3]

- Abd al-Azīz b. Abī Rawwād

A precious affair that erases sins

Allah Almighty has made true repentance a precious affair which is a sufficient remedy for every sin. There is no sin that remains after true repentance, even polytheism and disbelief (are forgiven by virtue of true repentance).[4]

- Imam Amad Rāza Khān

Action is the standard of claiming love

Everybody verbally claims to love Allah Almighty and honour of the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, but practical actions test who is true or false in this claim.[5]

- Imam Amad Rāza Khān

Greatness of Islam

The grandeur of Islam is in obedience to Islam.[6]

Wellbeing lies in not publicising one’s worship

One who publicises his worship must reflect upon his heart, as bad intentions will make him ostentatious.[7]

- Mawlana Ilyas Attar al-Qadiri

Do not accuse anyone of ostentation

Hypothetically, even if a person is indeed being ostentatious, do not call him a show-off, as there is no device that can detect ostentation in their heart.[8]

- Mawlana Ilyas Attar al-Qadiri

Treatment of the heart lies with the people of the heart

The treatment of the heart is with the people of the heart. The company of one who is pious, scrupulous, knowledgeable, a true devotee of the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, a bearer of Sunni creed, who loves all the Companions رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهُم without criticising any of them, who loves the Ahl al-Bayt, and respect the saints of Islam; being around them removes rust and dirt from the heart, washes away its darkness, softens it, and can also completely revive it.[9]

- Mawlana Ilyas Attar al-Qadiri
