Owais Yameen Attari Madani

Āmir b. Wāthilah and Mustawrid b. Shaddād رَضِیَ الـلّٰـهُ عَنْهُمَا are from among the fortunate individuals who were selected by Allah Almighty to be Companions of the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم at a young age. Let us read about them and fill our hearts with love for the Companions.

Āmir b.

He was born in in 3 AH, the year in which the Battle of Uud took place.[1] He was well-known by his teknonym, Abū ufayl.

Number of narrations

Nine Hadith are transmitted from him.[2]

The Prophet’s beauty

Āmir b. Wāthilah رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ recalls the beauty of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم as follows:

كَانَ اَبْيَض مَلِيحًا مُقَصّدًا

“He was fair in complexion, malī in beauty, and medium in height.”[3]

Mufti Amad Yār Khān Naīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه comments:

There are two types of beauty: malī and abī. Malī is translated as “salt-like beauty.” abī is also a type of beauty but surpassed by malī. The difference cannot be expressed verbally. This is something that the devotee determines with his eyes; the tongue is incapable of describing it. [4]

Understand that having a white complexion is known as abī. On the other hand, having whiteness with a tinge of red, which contains an allure that draws the heart towards it and causes the eye to not tire of beholding it; this is malī. Such is the beauty of the Greatest Prophet

Passing

He lived for eight years during the physical lifetime of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and passed away in 110 AH, in Mecca. He was the last Companion to pass away.[5]

Mustawrid b. Shaddād

He is also from the young Companions, yet he remembered the blessed words of the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and conveyed them.[6]

Number of narrations

Seven Hadith are transmitted from him.[7]

Cleaning between the toes during wudu

In one narration, he mentions: “I saw that when the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would perform wudu, he would use the small finger of his hand to clean between his toes.”[8]

Passing

When the Greatest Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم departed from this world, Mustawrid b. Shaddād was very young.[9] He himself passed away in 45 AH, in Alexandria or elsewhere in Egypt.[10]

May Allah Almighty have mercy upon them and forgive us without accountability for their sake.
