* Sunan and manners: 5 minutes

* Position yourself near the grave so you face the deceased's face, and approach them from their feet side. Do not stand at the head of the grave, as to avoid making the deceased turn their head to see you.[1]
* Stand in such a way that your back is towards the qibla and your face is towards the deceased's face. Then, say the following:
اَلسَّلامُ عَلَیْکُمْ یَا اَھْلَ الْقُبُوْرِ یَغْفِرُ اللہُ لَنَا وَلَکُمْ اَنْتُمْ لَـنَا سَلَفٌ وَّنَحنُ بِالْاَثَر
Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the graves! May Allah forgive us and you. You have preceded us, and we will soon follow you.[2]
* Burning incense or placing ignited materials on a grave is considered disrespectful and can lead to bad results. It can also cause discomfort to the deceased. Yet, if you wish to offer fragrance to visitors, place the incense in an empty space near the grave to spread its pleasant smell, as providing fragrance is a commendable act.[3]
