disgusted with sin. His heart detached from the world, and he immediately turned to Allah in repentance.
Regarding fleeting hopes, Allah declares in the Quran:
ذَرْھُمْ یَاْکُلُوْا وَ یَتَمَتَّعُوْا وَ یُلْہِہِمُ الْاَمَلُ فَسَوْفَ یَعْلَمُوْنَ (۳)
Leave them to eat and enjoy and let hope make them heedless, then soon they will come to know.[1]
Sayyid NaꜤīm al-Dīn al-Murādābādī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه explains this blessed verse. He says, "This contains a warning: being trapped in fleeting hopes and being immersed in the pursuit of worldly pleasures does not befit a believer."
Sayyidunā ꜤAlī b. Abī Ṭālib رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ said, “Fleeting hopes make one forget the Hereafter, and following desires leads one away from the truth.”
What are fleeting hopes? What is meant by this? Let us listen and understand further.
What is meant by fleeting hopes?
Fleeting or unrealistic hopes refer to wasting precious moments of life in pursuit of things that are very difficult to attain, while forming aspirations and expectations to achieve them.[2]
Remember! These are a weapon of Satan. In Tafsīr Ṣirāṭ al-Jinān, it is mentioned:
“Satan plants the thought of living a long life in a person’s heart and mind, keeping him heedless of death. This long hope persists
