Words of Our Pious Elders

Fragrant Speech
Act according to your status
Dhū al-Nūn al-Miṣrī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said, “Ask for your needs in the manner of a needy person, not in an authoritarian manner.”[1]
Befriending evil people leads to disgrace
Abū Ḥātim رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said, “Just as the one who goes to a den of evil is accused of wrongdoing, the one who befriends evil people does not remain safe either.”[2]
Expressing neediness leads to Humiliation
Fuḍayl b. ꜤIyāḍ رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said, “When you are needy and dependent on others, do not place your needs and poverty between you and people. Leave them between you and Allah Almighty so you are not humiliated in the eyes of people.”[3]
The flower garden of Ahmad Raza continues to blossom today
Abandoning the prayer is ungratefulness towards Allah’s blessings
The abandonment of prayer is severe ingratitude towards Allah’s favours.[4]
Do not criticise Islamic scholars
It is also obligatory to remember that it is severely forbidden for laypeople to criticise the actions of a true Sunni scholar of upright creed, who guides people. Such fault-finding is a cause of severe deprivation and misfortune.[5]
Excessive eating deprives one of worship
Eating to your fill and longing to spend the night in worship is like asking an infertile woman for a child. The one who eats a lot drinks a lot, and the one who drinks a lot will sleep excessively. The one who sleeps too much is deprived of goodness and blessings.[6]

Rectify the future generation with your character
If we are humble, its blessings will manifest in those around us. People will learn from it and so will our children.[7]
Love and hate only for the sake of Allah Almighty and His Messenger
Islam teaches love and extinguishes hate. Our hate is only for the enemies of Allah and His Prophet, matters which distance us from their way, and things which divert us from believing in Quran and hadith.[8]
Do not be arrogant if you are honoured
Never forget Allah, the One who gave you honour. If He removes your honour because of your pride, you will be humiliated.[9]
