Protection of Iman and Seclusion

It is reported that a person would live his life in seclusion. Sayyiduna Abu Darda رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ went to him and asked why he lived like this. The man replied, “I have a fear in my heart that my Iman might be taken from me whilst I am completely unaware.”[1]

Weeping all Night

Sayyiduna Yusuf bin Asbaat رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: I once went to visit Sayyiduna Sufyan Thawri رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه wept for the entire night. So, I asked him, “Are you crying out of fear of your sins?” Sayyiduna Sufyan Thawri رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه picked up a piece of straw and responded, “Sins hold less value than this piece of straw in the court of Allah Almighty; I fear that the treasure of faith may be taken from me.”[2]

May I Die upon Faith

When the son of Sayyiduna Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه asked him regarding his condition at the time of death, he replied, “This is not the time for an answer. Make du’a that Allah Almighty allows me to die upon faith, because the accursed Satan is pouring dirt over his head, and saying that it is a cause of sorrow and grief if I depart from this world in the state of Iman. I am telling him that I am still at risk from him even if I have one breath left in me.”[3]

O devotees of the Awliya! You have heard the extent to which our pious predecessors رَحْمَۃُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَیْہِمْ اَجْمَعِیْن feared Allah Almighty. They would spend their entire lives adhering to the Shar’iah and Sunnah; they spent every moment in the remembrance of Allah Almighty; these individuals were true devotees of the Prophet and were well aware of
