The first Caliph of Islam, Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq رَضِیَ اللہُ عنہ  said:

Any action the Prophet صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ واٰلہٖ وَسَلَّمَ used to do; I simply cannot go without performing it myself. If I were to leave just one action of his, I fear becoming someone who turned away from the sunnah entirely.”[1]

The second Caliph of Islam, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِیَ اللہُ عنہ said,

Since I saw the Messenger of Allah صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ واٰلہٖ وَسَلَّمَ eating bread made from unfiltered flour, I never had bread made from filtered flour for myself again.[2]

The third Caliph of Islam, ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهُ, once called for a leg of lamb to be cooked for him. He then ate it at the door of the masjid, offered salah without renewing wudu, and said, “One day, the Messenger of Allah صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ واٰلہٖ وَسَلَّمَ ate a leg of lamb at this very place, and then did this. Because he did this, I have done the same.”[3]

The Companion ʿAbdullah b. ʿUmar رَضِیَ اللہُ عنہما once headed to Mecca. On the way, he came across a tree. He deliberately had his ʿimāma caught in the branches of this tree, stopped, removed it from the branches, and continued upon the path. When people asked why he did this, he replied:

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ واٰلہٖ وَسَلَّمَ was here on one occasion. As he passed through, the branches of this tree lovingly took hold of his blessed ʿimāma (in other words, his
