الَّذِیْ  خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَ الْحَیٰوۃَ لِیَبْلُوَکُمْ  اَیُّکُمْ  اَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ؕ

Translation from Kanz al-Irfān: He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is better in virtue.[1]

The purpose of our lives is to worship Allah Almighty and perform an abundance of good deeds, but hard-heartedness is such an ailment that makes us forget about our true purpose in life.

Third harm

Another harm of this spiritual disease is that it destroys good deeds performed in the past. The beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “Six things destroy good deeds:

1.    Finding faults in people

2.    Hard-heartedness

3.    Love for the world

4.    Immodesty

5.    Unrealistic hopes

6.    Excessive cruelty.”[2]

Fourth harm

People with a hard heart earn the displeasure of Allah Almighty and they are cursed by Him, meaning, they are distanced from His mercy. Sayyidunā Alī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ reports that the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “Seek goodness from the merciful people of my ummah and stay close to them. Do not seek goodness from hard-hearted people because they
