Dear Islamic brothers! There is no doubt that hard-heartedness is a destructive illness that causes a person to fall into sins. Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said, “The greatest punishment for a believer is for his heart to become hard.”[2] A heart of stone causes one to sin more, it distances him from Islam, and it eradicates the pleasure of worship, recitation and dhikr of Allah Almighty. It turns one away from the mercy of Allah Almighty, and it is a sign of misfortune. It is a spiritual disease that creates even more maladies.
It has also been condemned in hadith. Here are two regarding the harms of hard-heartedness. The beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:
1. A hard-hearted person is distant from the mercy of Allah Almighty.[3]
2. Four things are from misfortune:
* The inability to cry.
* Hardness of the heart.
