اٰمِیْنْ بِجَاہِ خاتَمِ النَّبِیّٖن صلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہ ِوَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Pearls of wisdom about the intentions of fasting

Dear Islamic brothers! As we bring this speech to a close, let us gain the blessing of listening to some pearls of wisdom regarding the intentions of fasting, taken from the book Blessings of Ramadan.

*    When it comes to fasts in Ramadan, a specifically vowed fast, and nafl fasts, the time to make intention for these extends from sunset until before the Islamic midday (Ḍaḥwat al-Kubrā). If you make an intention at any time during this period, your fast will be valid.[1]

*    Intention refers to the resolve of the heart; verbalising it is not a condition, but it is recommended to say it aloud.

*    If making the intention at night for a Ramadan fast, one should say:

نَوَیتُ اَنْ اَصُوْ مَ غَدًا لِلّٰہِ تَعَالیٰ مِنْ فَرْضِ رَمَضان

I intend to observe an obligatory fast of Ramadan tomorrow for Allah.

*    If making the intention during the day, one should say:

نَوَیتُ اَنْ اَصُوْ مَ ھٰذاالْیومَ لِلّٰہِ تَعَالیٰ مِنْ فَرضِ رَمَضان
