Making a masjid in the home

Dear Islamic brothers, in the beginning of Islam, Amīr al-Muʾminīn Sayyidunā Abū Bakr Ṣiddīq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ built a masjid within the courtyard of his home, where he would recite the Quran and offer salah. Seeing this faith-refreshing sight, people would gather around him. His recitation of the Quran, acts of worship and crying in fear of Allah would inspire them. These deeds of his led to many accepting Islam.[1]

Umm al-Muʾminīn Sayyidatunā ʿĀishah Ṣiddīqah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا states, “When my noble father رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ would recite the Quran, he could not control his tears, i.e., he would cry profusely.”[2]

Reward of crying during recitation of the Quran

Dear Islamic brothers, you have heard how Amīr al-Muʾminīn Sayyidunā Abū Bakr Ṣiddīq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ would cry profusely whilst reciting the Quran, even though he had received glad tidings from the final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in this world that he would enter Paradise. Even with this in mind, he would still cry due to his fear of Allah.

We should also cry whilst reciting the Quran, and if we are unable to cry, we should try to look as though we are, as crying whilst reciting the Quran is an excellent deed.

The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated, “Cry whilst reciting it (the Quran); if you cannot cry, then make an expression as though you are.”[3]
