Book Name:Siddique Akbar Ka Kirdar o Farameen

Do not quarrel with your neighbour

Sayyidunā ʿAbd al-Raḥmān bin Qāsim رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ narrates from his father:

Sayyiduna Abū Bakr رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ once passed by Sayyiduna ʿAbd al-Raḥmān bin Abū Bakr رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا when the latter was reprimanding his neighbour. “Do not quarrel with your neighbour”, Sayyiduna Abū Bakr رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ said, “for he will remain here, but those who witness your argument will leave from here.”[1]

Rights of a neighbour

Dear Islamic brothers, look at the beautiful way in which Sayyidunā Abū Bakr Ṣiddīq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ advised someone who was disputing with his neighbour. When neighbours argue with one another over some matter, it is only their own loss. This is because they must still live together after their argument, but their quarrelling becomes entertainment for other people.

Remember, great importance is given to the rights of neighbours in Islam, as the final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “I advise you to be good to your neighbours.” He then mentioned so many rights pertaining to neighbours that it seemed as though he would declare them to be rightful of inheritance.[2] May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to take care of our neighbours.

Sayings of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ

Dear Islamic brothers, just as Amīr al-Muʾminīn Sayyidunā Abū Bakr Ṣiddīq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ would rectify people through his character, he also guided the ummah with his words of wisdom.
