distanced me from the mercy of my Lord.”

Having said this, he began to cry again. Then, after a while, he said to his son:

O my son! Turn my face towards Qiblah. When drops of sweat appear on my forehead and tears flow from my eyes, help me, and recite the testimony of faith, perhaps I will gain some relief. After my death, when you have lowered me into my grave and covered me with soil, do not hasten in returning from there, rather stand at my head side and recite لَآ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللہُ مُحَمَّدُرَّسُوْلُ اللہ as I may find ease through this in answering the questions of Munkar and Nakīr. Then, raise your hands and make duꜤā, “O Lord! This is Your slave. He did the sins he did. If You punish him, he is deserving of that, and if You pardon him, that befits Your majesty.” Then, bid me farewell, and depart.

After his death, his son acted upon his request. On the second night, he saw his father in a dream and asked him, “O my father! How are you?”

He replied:

The affair was so difficult and intense that you cannot imagine. When I stood to give my account in the court of Allah Almighty, He asked, “O my slave! What have you brought for me?”

I responded, “I have brought 60 Hajj.”

I received the answer, “None of these are accepted.”

Hearing this, I shuddered. Allah Almighty asked, “What else have you brought?”

I replied, “1000 dirhams of charity.”

Allah Almighty responded, “Not even a dirham of it is accepted by Me.”
