Admonitory words

Sayyidunā Muḥammad b. Ḥusayn رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states:

I saw Sayyidunā Abū MuꜤāwiyah Aswad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه crying continuously at midnight. He uttered these admonitory words:

“Beware! The person who made this world his goal and remained preoccupied in acquiring it will face immense grief and worry on the Day of Judgement. The person who always remembers the affairs of the Hereafter and bears in mind the difficulties and terrors of the Day of Judgement, his heart becomes averse to the world. If you wish to attain repose, tranquillity and great blessings, sleep little at night and make a habit of waking up and worshipping. When someone advises you, invites you to righteousness and forbids you from evil, accept his invitation.

Do not worry about the provision of those you leave behind as you have not been made responsible for it. Prepare yourself for that great day when you will come in the court of Allah and be questioned. Always remain busy in preparing for that difficult day. Perform pious deeds in abundance and hasten in filling your balance of virtuous acts for the Hereafter. Leave pointless activities and prepare for death before its arrival, otherwise you will face severe regret afterwards. When your soul begins to leave your body and reaches your throat, those things that you favoured and desired will all remain in this world. At that time your regret will reach its peak, so prepare for your Hereafter before then.”[1]
