1. Dust off the bed before sleeping. Ensure the bed is thoroughly dusted to remove any harmful insects, etc.
2. Recite the following supplication before sleeping:
اَللّٰھُمَّ بِاسْمِکَ اَمُوْتُ وَاَحیٰ
Translation: O Allah! With Your name, I die and live (i.e., sleep and wake up).[1]
3. Avoid habitually
sleeping after ꜤAṣr as this might affect the intellect.
The beloved Prophetصَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ
وَسَلَّمَ
said, “Whoever sleeps after ꜤAṣr and loses
their mind has only themselves to blame.”[2]
4. Midday nap (Qaylūlah) is recommended.[3]
ꜤAllāmah Mufti Muhammad Amjad ꜤAlī al-AꜤẓamī رَحْمَۃُ اللہِ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ states, “This is mostly for those who stay awake at night for prayers, remembrance of Allah Almighty, or reading and studying, as the fatigue from staying awake at night is relieved by the midday nap.”[4]
5. Avoid sleeping during the early part of the day or between Maghrib and ꜤIshāˈ. Sleeping during these times is undesirable.[5]
6. Sleeping in a state of ablution is recommended.
