Faizan e Ghosul Azam

Book Name:Faizan e Ghosul Azam

He was the leading orator and public speaker of his time. His eloquent books encompassed a huge spectrum of subjects, and alongside his profound teaching skills, he was also ḥāfiẓ al-ḥadīth (this is a title conferred upon whomever memorizes 100,000 ḥadīth with their chain of transmission).[1]

Observe the scholarly expertise and vast knowledge of ʿAllāmah ibn Jawzī. Let us now discuss a beautiful incident regarding him and Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه.

When ibn Jawzī attended the gathering of the Crown of Saints

Ḥafiẓ Abū al-ʿAbbās Aḥmad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه explains:

I once accompanied ʿAllāmah ibn Jawzī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه to a gathering of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه. A qārī recited the Quran, and then Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī began to explain the verses that were recited. When he mentioned a particular commentary, I asked ibn Jawzī, ‘Did you have knowledge of this?’ He replied in the affirmative. After this, Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī mentioned 11 further explanations of the verse, all of which ibn Jawzī expressed his prior knowledge of.

Continuing, the Shaykh referenced 40 commentaries for the verse in discussion, even mentioning the name of whoever wrote them. When I asked ibn Jawzī if he knew of these commentaries from the 11th to the 40th, he shook his head and said, ‘These commentaries and explanations are not in my knowledge.’[2]
