If the saints of Allah can turn a thief into a quṭb by simply focusing their attention upon them, why would they not be able to cleanse our hearts from rust and purify us from sins? Taking all of this into consideration, we should stay in the company of these venerable saints as much as possible, as doing so can bring permanent positive change into a person’s heart.

Adopting the company of the awliyā is a way to save oneself from the tricks of Satan, it makes a person focus upon performing good deeds, is a means of overcoming the nafs, rids the heart of rust, washes away a person’s sins, and purifies the soul. In summary, staying with the friends of Allah and adopting their company leads a person to unimaginable goodness.

Whilst mentioning these benefits, Aḥmad b. Ḥarb رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه said: "From that which most benefits a man’s heart is to love good deeds and remaining in saintly company, along with practically implementing their words and actions.”^[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

O devotees of the awliyā! Whoever is granted sainthood by Allah, can manifest such things that leave the minds astonished. With the permission of Allah, saints can even bring the dead to life, their blessings can cause rain to occur, they can cure the unwell, possess knowledge of the unseen, remove the rust that afflicts a person’s heart and come to others assistance.

اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه! Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qādir Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, is the crown of all saints. His blessed foot is on the necks of all awliyā رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـه, and he was granted great abilities by Allah.
