Dear Islamic brothers! اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه We are hugely blessed to be in the month of Rabīʿ al-ākhir. Another blessing is the fact that we are all present here in its 11^th night; a night in which devotees of the Crown of the Saints, Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī gather to commemorate his life and teachings, as it marks the date of his passing from this world.

Generally, an event held to commemorate the date in which a saint passed away is known as an ʿurs, in Arabic. So not only is tonight’s event an ʿurs, but also referred to as gyarhwīn sharif in the Asian subcontinent.

When discussing tonight in particular, devotees of the Crown of the Saints, Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه across the world celebrate this event with great reverence.

They arrange for reward to be conveyed to his blessed soul, in a variety of ways. Gatherings are conducted, the Quran is recited; some gather to watch the Madani Muzakarah, others keep a voluntary fast to convey reward, with books being distributed and food served.

اَلْـحَمْـدُ لـِلّٰـه! In the Islamic environment of Dawat-e-Islami, gatherings held in commemoration of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, are organized across the world. Corresponding to this great occasion, let us discuss this great personality, who is currently resting in his shrine in Baghdad.

In today’s speech, along with discussing some events from the blessed childhood of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, we will also describe the glad tidings that were given about him before he was even born.

There is no doubt the great shaykh was a saint from birth, but we shall also discuss the point in his life when he learnt of his own sainthood.

We will talk about some notable events of his blessed life, his spiritual mastery, vast knowledge and love for students of Islam. A murshid can truly offer guidance to a person, and the spiritual blessings one may
