convey the reward to pious elders, as well as distribute this food as ṣadaqah.

Adding to this, one can stay awake during the 15th night of Shaʿbān and offer nafl salah. All Muslims should seek forgiveness from each other for their shortcomings, as the prayers of a Muslim who holds hatred for another are not accepted. If you are unable to spend the entire night in worship, carry out as much as you can and visit the cemetery. If one boils seven jujube leaves in water and makes ghusl with this, he shall be protected from the evil effects of magic for the entire year اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه.[1]

Remember the deceased

Dear Islamic brothers! On this blessed night, be sure to remember the loved ones who are no longer with you. One way to commemorate them and do good for them is by feeding others on this night of mercy and forgiveness. The reward of this can then be conveyed to them. Imam Jalāl al-Dīn Suyūṭi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه says:

As narrated by Sayyidunā ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAbbās رَضِىَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا, souls of the deceased stand at the doors of their homes on Eid al-Aḍḥā, Eid al-Fiṭr the first Friday of Rajab, the middle night of Shaʿbān (Laylat al-Barāʾah) and Friday night. They say, “Show mercy to us and give charity on our behalf, even if it is a piece of bread.” If they do not find anything (i.e. nothing is given as charity on their behalf), they return in a state of grief.[2]

Dear Islamic brothers! You have just heard that Laylat al-Barāʾah is a night of utmost blessings and a night in which fortunate people are granted freedom from Hell. It should not be spent in heedlessness at any cost, as Allah frees more people from Hell than there are hairs on
