Beauty necessitates height to be moderate, but a question then may arise. Would anyone ever appear taller than the Prophetصَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم? This is impossible, as our Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is the highest ranked of all creation, and Allah did not like for anyone to appear taller than His beloved.

The mother of the believers, Lady ꜤĀishah رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہا explains, “Whenever the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم walked with tall people, he appeared taller than all. Amazingly, he appeared at his usual balanced height when not around them.”[1]

The fourth Caliph of Islam, ꜤAlī bin Abī Ṭālib رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ, stated, “The Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was of perfect moderation in height but would appear taller than people when amongst them.”[2]

A physical display of spiritual elevation

O those who love Allah’s Messenger! Imam al-Zurqānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه highlights an important point here.

We can see someone’s physical being with our eyes, but we are unable to see their talents, skills, or abilities. For example, let’s say someone is 6 foot tall. We can see their height, but we can’t see the fact they are a memoriser of the Quran, a scholar of Islam, or a master of a particular expertise.

Imam al-Zurqānī said:

When the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was amongst people, he appeared taller than them. This does not mean his physical height increased and returned to its original when he left. The spiritual elevation of the virtues and excellences granted to the
