Sunnahs and manners of hosting guests

Dear Islamic brothers, let us speak about some Sunnahs and manners of hosting guests. First, we will listen to three hadith of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم:

1. There is no goodness in whoever is not hospitable (despite having the ability to be).[1]

2. It is from a person’s lack of intelligence that he makes his guests do work.[2]

3. The Sunnah is to see off a guest to the door.[3]

*    A guest should be mindful of his host’s engagements and responsibilities

*    The erudite Hanafi jurist, Muftī Amjad ꜤAlī al-AꜤẓamī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, states that four things are necessary for a guest:

1.   He should sit where he is told to sit.

2.   He should be pleased with whatever is presented to him (he should not make statements like, “I eat better food than this at home,” or other similar statements).

3.   He should not move from his place without the host’s permission.
