صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic brothers, as well as possessing many other qualities, Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was unmatched in his worship of Allah Almighty, spiritual efforts, sainthood and marvels. He  excelled in piety and was also a person who turned away from the world and was content with little. He had no desire for material wealth, and if a rich person would present something to him, he would not accept it, and would instead give the call to righteousness to that person in an attempt to reform them.

Ascetism and piety

Shaykh Abū al-ꜤAbbās Khiḍr رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states:

One night, we were in the madrassa of Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه in Baghdad when the Caliph came to him, greeted him with salām, asked for advice and presented ten purses of wealth to him, which were in the hands of servants.

He said, “I have no need for these pouches.”

But the khalifah refused and insisted that he accept them. So, the Shaykh رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه took one pouch in his right hand and another in his left hand, and squeezed them both, causing blood to flow from them.
