Caliph ꜤAbd al-Malik b. Marwān fell unconscious. After regaining consciousness and said, “O Manṣūr رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه! What is the meaning of Allah’s statement:
وَ یُحَذِّرُکُمُ اللّٰہُ نَفْسَہٗ ؕ
And Allah warns you of His Wrath.[2]
Sayyidunā Manṣūr رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه answered, “It means Allah scares you with His wrath and punishment.” The Caliph cried profusely until he fell unconscious.
When he regained consciousness, he exclaimed, “I swear by Allah! Whoever commits sins after reflecting upon this verse has strayed far from the straight path.”[3]
O devotees of the Prophet! We are Muslims, we believe in the Day of Judgement and we know we will be held accountable for our actions. We also know excuses will not work on that Day. Despite this, we continue sinning and disobeying Allah Almighty, and we refuse to repent! Who is more ignorant than us? If only we understood the horrors on that Day and attained the fear of standing before Allah Almighty.
