Remembering the Prophet’s favours for his Ummah
Umm-e-Milad Attariyyah
One of the golden principles to turn a society into a better one is to remember your well-wishers, benefactors and those who remember you during the good times and the bad times. [In return] Such people are also remembered during the times of ease and difficulty, and attempts are made to keep them happy and not to displease them.
Dear Islamic sisters! We are bound by this golden principle to socially behave impeccably even for ordinary people. We are therefore, to a much higher degree, bound to not forget the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is the master of all. He is the Prophet and Messenger of this Ummah who remembered us everywhere by virtue of his great kindness and unmatched mercy. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم even remembered his Ummah on the night of Mi’raaj; he kept supplicating to Allah Almighty, created ease for us, granted us salvation from the punishment and safety from many difficulties. This concern of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم for his Ummah is mentioned in the Holy Quran by Allah Almighty in the following way:
عَزِیْزٌ عَلَیْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِیْصٌ عَلَیْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ رَءُوْفٌ رَّحِیْمٌ(۱۲۸)
Heavy upon him is your suffering, he immensely desires your wellbeing; utmost kind, merciful for the Muslims.
[Kanz-ul-Iman (translation of Quran)] (Part 11, Surah Al-Taubah, Verse 128)
Muhaddis-e-A’zam Pakistan, Sayyiduna Sardar Ahmad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would say that the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم remembered us by saying ‘my Ummah, my Ummah’ throughout his life; he has been remembering us by saying ‘my Ummah, my Ummah’ in his luminous grave and will continue to do so until the Judgement Day and even on that day, he will call out ‘my Ummah, my Ummah.’
The truth is that if the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم had said ‘my Ummah’ just once, and if we continued to say ya Nabi ya Nabi, ‘یَا رسولَ الله یَا حبیبَ الله’ throughout our life, the right of him having uttered ‘my Ummah’ just once cannot be fulfilled. (‘Aashiq Akbar, p. 53)
Dear Islamic sisters! Our Blessed Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم bestowed upon us countless favours. These favours warrant that we instil our Beloved Prophet’s remembrance in our heart. They necessitate that we perfume our mind and heart with the scent of his remembrance. They require us to practically act upon his blessed sayings. They entail us spending our life in accordance with the commandments and rulings stated in the Holy Quran, performing the Fard and Wajib acts of worship regularly and fulfilling the rights of people. However, what actually happened? We were dominated by our Nafs and Satan, and it is as though we befriended our open enemy, Satan. We also forgot the teachings of our Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Is this how one should repay favours? Not at all! Not at all!
Dear Islamic sisters! There is still time as we are still alive; our mortal life has not ended just yet. Hasten to please the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Start spending life according to his teachings and seek repentance for the sins committed in the past. Indeed, he is very merciful, and his doors of mercy are open all the time. He will definitely forgive us, become pleased with us and have us forgiven by Allah Almighty. He will better our life in this world and also save us from Hell, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه.
