The harms of talking excessively
Dear Islamic brothers, you heard how our imam, Imam Abu Hanifa رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْهprotected his tongue by remaining silent and only speaking when necessary. Speaking excessively and speaking without any thought is dangerous as it can result in earning the eternal displeasure of Allah Almighty. Indeed, safety lies in avoiding unnecessary speech. In order to develop a habit of speaking less, communicate through writing or gestures.
This will be extremely beneficial, because the one who speaks more usually makes more mistakes. Such a person will find it difficult to keep secrets and to refrain from backbiting, slander and exposing the faults of others. In fact, those who cannot stop talking are at risk of uttering statements of disbelief. May Allah Almighty have mercy upon us and grant us the ability to control our tongues. اٰمِیْن بِجَاہِ النَّبِیِّ الْاَمِیْن صلَّی اللہ عَلَیْہِ واٰلہٖ وسلَّم
Finding good company in today’s age is very difficult. Unfortunately, even many people who seem like good individuals often engage in useless conversations instead of speaking about useful matters. If only we met people solely for the sake of Allah Almighty and only when necessary.
The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “It is from the beauty of a person’s faith to leave that which does not concern him.”[1] The erudite Hanafi jurist, Muftī Amjad ꜤAlī AꜤẓamī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states regarding this Hadith, “Do not engage in that which is useless. Do not divert the attention of your tongue, heart and limbs towards useless activities.”[2]
