I entered Imam Abu Hanifa’s Masjid, and I saw that after the Fajr prayer, the imam would spend the entire day teaching people about Islam. During this time, he would only have a break to perform the prayers. After the Isha prayer, he would go home. After a short amount of time, he would apply fragrance to his clothes and return to the masjid to perform nafl prayers until dawn. He would then return home, change his clothes and return to the masjid to perform the Fajr prayer with the congregation. After this, his schedule during the day would be the same as the previous day: teaching until Isha.

I thought he must be very tired and today he will rest at home during the night. But he spent the second night in the same way he spent the first. The third day and night were spent in exactly the same way. I was very impressed by this and decided to stay in his company for the rest of my life. Thus, I took permanent residency in the masjid. During my stay, I always saw the imam fasting during the day and busy in worship throughout the night. However, Imam Abu Hanifa رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would rest for a while before the Dhuhr prayer.[1]    

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

The Imam’s manner of Business

Dear Islamic brothers, alongside engaging in teaching and in the worship of Allah Almighty, Imam Abu Hanifa رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه earned halal sustenance through trade. He treated people kindly, adhered to the principles of Shariah and encouraged his colleagues to do the same.

Sayyiduna Hafs bin Abdul Rahman رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه and Imam Abu Hanifa رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would do business together. One day, Sayyiduna Hafs bin Abdul
