short introduction to him. May Allah Almighty allow us to listen to the entire bayan attentively and with good intentions.

Let us first listen to a faith-inspiring account about the knowledge of Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه.

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

An ocean of knowledge and wisdom

Ḥāfiẓ Abū al-ꜤAbbās Aḥmad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states:

I once accompanied ꜤAllāmah ꜤAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه to a gathering of Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, in which qārī recited the holy Quran and then Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه began exhorting us and presented an exegesis for one of the verses that was recited. I asked ꜤAllāmah Ibn al-Jawzī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, “Did you have knowledge of this exegesis?”

“Yes, I was aware of this commentary,” he answered.

Then Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه gave a second exegesis for the same verse, so I asked ꜤAllāmah Ibn al-Jawzī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, “Did you know this interpretation?”

“Yes, I knew it,” he replied.

Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه then gave a third exegesis, so I asked again, “Were you aware of this commentary too?”

“Yes, I was aware of it,” he responded.

Shaykh ꜤAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه then went on to give a fourth, fifth, sixth and all the way up to a tenth exegesis. After each commentary, I asked ꜤAllāmah Ibn al-Jawzī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه
