The excellence of Sayyiduna Dawood Ta’ee رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه

Dear Islamic brothers! You have just heard about the humility of Sayyiduna Dawood Ta’ee رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه! He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه is considered to be a very high-ranking Wali of Allah, in fact, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه is considered to be Qutb-ul-Aqtaab. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was from among the erudite students of Imam-ul-A’zam Abu Hanifah رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه. The scribe of the Mazhab, Sayyiduna Imam Muhammad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, would go to him for solutions to complex Ijtihadi issues. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه would perform worship and recite the Quran in abundance. (Kufriyah Kalimat kay baray mayn Suwal Jawab) Despite this, his level of humility was such that he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه did not deem himself worthy of being visited, but alas, the terrible state of our hearts is such that we are desirous of attaining a position in the world, we are pleased with increasing our honour, and we love acceptance from the people. In fact, our state is such that if we do not receive a responsibility or high position, we become upset, whereas, the way of life and mindset of our pious predecessors was totally different; if they were to be given a position, they would become worried.

Surprise upon receiving a position

Before passing away, Khalifah Sulayman made a will and wrote down the name of his successor and then sealed it. After his passing, when that sealed will was opened, the name of Sayyiduna Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه (unexpectedly) came out from it. Seeing this, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه became surprised and worried, and said, ‘I never made Du’a to Allah Almighty for this position.’ (Tareekh Al-Khulafa, p. 185)

Sayyiduna Hamad رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه narrates: When Sayyiduna Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was appointed the caliph, he began to weep. When I
