رَحِمَهُمَا الـلّٰـهُ as saints, as the Lord makes them say this. This is a manifestation of this blessed saying.’ (Mirat-ul-Manajih, vol. 7, p. 145)
Dear Islamic brothers, there is no doubt that the pious people of Allah only perform actions to please Him. This is why Allah places love and respect for them in the hearts of people. This way, their piety becomes known all around the world.
On the other hand, our situation illustrates the opposite. We do not tend to perform good deeds, and if we do happen to perform them, we hurry to tell others so that we can be praised. To protect yourself from the inner disease of desiring fame and to not leave any room in your hearts for the want of respect and fame, listen to a few prophetic sayings:
1. ‘Protect your obedience to Allah from the praise offered by people lest your actions be ruined.’ (Firdaus-ul-Akhbar Lil-Daylami, vol. 1, p. 223, Hadith 1567)
2. Love for wealth and status increases hypocrisy in a believer’s heart just as how water causes vegetation to grow. (Ihya`-ul-‘Uloom, vol. 3, pp. 286, 342)
3. ‘Two hungry wolves do not cause as much damage to a herd of sheep as much as wealth and desire for fame damage a Muslim’s religion.’ (Tirmizi, vol. 4, p. 166, Hadith 2383)
4. ‘Liking one’s own praise makes a person deaf and blind.’ (Firdaus-ul-Akhbar Lil-Daylami, vol. 1, p. 347, Hadith 2548)
