of anything extra. Illness is Zakat for good health, problems are Zakat for well-being, and Salah is Zakat for worldly business.
5. If every eligible person made sure to give Zakat, the Muslims at large would never be dependent on others for financial help. The needs of Muslims should be taken care of by other Muslims, so they do not have to ask others for help.[1]
Instead of piling up money in our bank accounts, we should give Zakat and Sadaqah in the path of Allah. If we do not give Zakat, we may be subject to extreme punishment in the Hereafter and financial ruin in this world. Not giving Zakat leads to many negative outcomes, some of which we will now mention.
Not giving Zakat leads to a person’s wealth being ruined and destroyed. Let’s now hear two blessed Hadith of the final Prophet of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in relation to this.
1. ‘Whatever wealth is destroyed in the land or sea is due to its Zakat not being given.’ [2]
2. ‘Zakat intermingled with wealth destroys and ruins it.’[3]
Mufti Muhammad Amjad Ali A’zami رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه explains this blessed Hadith by writing: “Many scholars explain this Hadith to mean, if a person does not give necessary Zakat and instead keeps it amongst his wealth, then this is Haraam.
