A description of punishments

Shaykh-e-Tareeqat, the Ameer of Ahl al-Sunnah, Mawlana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadiri Razavi دَامَتْ بَـرَکاتُہُمُ الْعَالِیَه writes on page 405, chapter 1 of his world-famous work, Blessings of Sunnah (Faizan-e-Sunnat):

“Dear Islamic brothers! Always remember! Where there are countless benefits and endless reward in giving Zakat, there are also frightening punishments associated with not giving it. My master, the Imam of the Ahl Al-Sunnah, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه describes the punishment mentioned in Quran and Hadith in the following manner: ‘In brief; whichever gold or silver did not have Zakat given upon will be heated on the Day of Judgement, and the people who did not give Zakat will have their foreheads, sides and backs marked with it. A hot stone from the Hellfire will be placed on their heads and chests, which will break their chests and come out of their shoulders. When these rocks are then placed on the shoulders, they will break the shoulder bones and come out of the chest. When their backs have these stones placed on them, it will come out of their sides. When placed on the back of their necks, it will go through their bodies and come out of their foreheads.

Whoever did not give Zakat upon their wealth will be chased by an enormous, old, filthy and bloodthirsty snake. When the person tries to stop it with his hand, the snake will bite and chew it. The snake will then shackle itself around the persons neck, and chew the person’s mouth. It will then say, ‘I am your wealth, I am your treasure.’ The snake will then chew the person’s entire body. وَالْعِیَاذُ بِاللہِ رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْن’. [1]

My master, A’la Hadrat رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه further elaborates on this topic, and goes on to explain the various punishments a person may be exposed to on the Day of Judgement by saying, ‘Dear friend! Are the commands
