Book Name:Barkaat e Zakat
Thereafter, Sayyiduna Musa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام issued an order to the earth: ‘يَا اَرۡضُ خُذِيۡهِمۡ’ - O earth! Seize them! They sank into the earth [ground] up to their knees. He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام again gave the same command to the earth, and they sank up to their waists. He عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام continued to say the same until they sank up to their necks. These people began to plea for help, and Qaroon began pleading with Sayyiduna Musa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, mentioning his kinship and relationship with him, and even began taking oaths by Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Musa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام did not pay any attention to him due to the severity of his anger. Finally, they completely sank into the ground with no traces left behind.
Sayyiduna Qatadah رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ has explained that they will continue to sink into the ground until the Day of Judgement. The Bani Israail said, ‘Sayyiduna Musa عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام made Du’a against Qaroon due to the latter’s house, treasure and possessions.’ Having heard this, he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام made Du’a, and the house of Qaroon, his treasure and wealth all sank into the ground. In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty has highlighted the ending Qaroon faced in this manner: In verse 81 of Surah Al-Qasas, part 20, it is stated:
فَخَسَفْنَا بِهٖ وَ بِدَارِهِ الْاَرْضَ- فَمَا كَانَ لَهٗ مِنْ فِئَةٍ یَّنْصُرُوْنَهٗ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِۗ-وَ مَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُنْتَصِرِیْنَ(۸۱)
We henceforth caused him and his home to sink into the earth; hence, he had no group to help save him from Allah, nor could he take revenge.[2]
Dear Islamic brothers! Observe the wretched end of Qaroon, a person who denied Zakat and presented himself as an enemy towards a Messenger of Allah Almighty. Qaroon brought this upon himself due to
