day, the attendees asked Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه about this, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه replied, “If you had seen what I have seen, you would not object to me. Whenever I asked about any hadith from the leader of the Qarees, Muhammad Bin Munkadir رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, he wept due to his reverence for hadith and remembrance of the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, to the extent that I used to feel sorry for him.”[1]
If only we were granted the honour of crying in the remembrance of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.

Imām Mālik’s respect for the soil of Madinah
Imam Shāfiʿī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has narrated:
In Madinah, I saw some horses from Khorasan or Egypt tied to Imām Mālik’s رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه door. I had never seen such magnificent horses before. So, I said, “How magnificent are these horses!” He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه replied, “I gift them all to you.” I said, “Keep a horse for yourself.” He said, “I feel ashamed before Allah to trample upon the blessed ground with my horse under which the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is resting.”[2]
In reverence for the soil of Madinah, Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه never relieved himself within Madinah. He would always go out of the ḥaram of Madinah for this purpose. However, he رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه was unable to do this during his illness.[3]
