The requirements of prophetic devotion

O devotees of the Awliyāʾ! We are remembering the devotion of Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه towards the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. Many Muslims claim that they love and revere the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, but be mindful that this claim can only be considered right if our actions show this reverence. What does prophetic devotion demand from us? Let us consider some points:

1. Obedience

The first thing devotion requires from us is obedience to the beloved. Therefore, those things which the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has commanded us to do, should be acted upon. Whatever he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has forbidden for us, should be avoided. Whatever he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم liked, should be part of our preferences, and whatever he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم disliked, should be disliked by us too. Remember! It is necessary upon the Muslims to obey the commands of Allah and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, hence, it is stated in Part 9, in the first verse of Surah al-Anfāl:
