The blessed appearance of Imām Mālik
Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه was tall in stature, healthy, and fair in his complexion. The hair of his head and beard were white, and he would wear the best clothing. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would wear expensive clothing from the city of Aden. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would also wear the best clothing from Egypt and Khorasan preferring white fabrics, and applying ‘Itr (fragrance) too.[1]
He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه is referred to as the Imām of Imāms, the Scholar of Madinah and Imām of Dār al-Hijrah (Place of Migration).
Imam Zurqānī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states, “Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه took knowledge from more than 900 scholars.”[2]
Imām Mālik رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه began to teach at the age of 17 years. Even his teachers would come to him for consultation. He wrote fatwas until the age of 70, and continued to teach sacred knowledge to the people. Some well-known Followers[3] رَحْمَۃُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَیْہِمْ اَجْمَعِیْن learnt fiqh and hadith from him.[4]
