children crying from the non-Muslim neighbour’s home. When inquiring why, he found out the child was crying because there was no light in their home. The child was scared of being in the dark.

Sayyidunā Bāyazīd Bisṭāmi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه immediately put some oil in a lamp and sent it to the home of his non-Muslim neighbour. He continued to do this every day until the neighbour returned from his journey. When he returned, his wife told him about the beautiful, caring conduct of Sayyidunā Bāyazīd Bisṭāmi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه. The non-Muslim said, “Why should darkness remain in the house in which the lamp of Bāyazīd has entered?” After saying this, the entire family accepted Islam.[1]
