The excellences of sending ṣalāt upon the Prophet

عَنْ اَبِي طَلْحَةَ الْاَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: اَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا طَيِّبَ النَّفْسِ يُرَى فِي وَجْهِهِ الْبِشْرُ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اَصْبَحْتَ الْيَوْمَ طَيِّبَ النَّفْسِ يُرَى فِي وَجْهِكَ الْبِشْرُ قَالَ اَجَلْ اَتَانِي آتٍ مِنْ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقَالَ مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيْكَ مِنْ اُمَّتِكَ صَلَاةً كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ وَمَحَا عَنْهُ عَشْرَ سَيِّئَاتٍ وَرَفَعَ لَهُ عَشْرَ دَرَجَاتٍ وَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ مِثْلَهَا

Abū Talḥa al-Anṣārī رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that one morning, the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was seen especially cheerful, with signs of happiness evident upon his face. “O Messenger of Allah!”, the Companions said, “We see you begin this morning in high spirits, with joy upon your face.” He replied, “Allah sent me a message, saying, ‘Whoever from your Ummah sends ṣalāt upon you once, I shall record for them ten good deeds, remove ten of their sins, raise them ten levels in rank, and send the same amount of mercy upon them.’”^[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Speech intentions

The final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said:

اَفْضَلُ الْعَمَلِ اَلنِّيَّۃُ الصَّادِقَۃُ

A truthful intention is the best action.^[2]

O those who love Allah’s Messenger! Make good intentions before every action, as this can be a means of entering Paradise. Before listening to this speech, make good intentions. For example:

*    I will listen to the entire speech to gain knowledge of Islam.

*    I will sit in a respectful manner.
